# Billing
This guide provides more detail on our monthly billing run.
# Starting a subscription plan
If you are a new client your account will by default be setup as a Pay-as-you-go account. You can switch to a subscription plan by electing one of the plans on the settings screen.
There are common questions during start:
what will I be charged for the first month?
- our monthly billing run is on 1st of the month
- you will be quoted a pro-rata rate to cover the remainder of the current month when you first switch from
Pay-as-you-go
to a monthly subscription plan
what happens to my existing Pay-as-you-go
if I switch to a subscription plan?
- your current
Pay-as-you-go
credit balance will be added to your pro-rata subscription plan base - these
Pay-as-you-go
credits will only be used after your alloted subscription base is used in any month and will be carried forward from month to month - hence you don't need to wait for your
Pay-as-you-go
credit balance to reach zero before switching to a subscription plan; whatever you have paid for will be preserved until needed and won't expire after switching to a subscription plan
# Monthly billing run
Our monthly billing run occurs on the 1st of month, regardless of when you start you subscription (see pro-rata above).
All invoices include the following items:
- subscription base in advance
- overage in arrears (if any)
- itemized bill
Payments are due 1 week after issue. You can pay by EFT or online via the link on the Xero invoice.
# Changing subscription plan
You can upgrade or downgrade at anytime in the settings. Any changes will take effect from the next billing run. You can change multiple times before month end if need be (there is no need to "revoke a previous change" or something like that; and just re-select the old subscription plan if you want to cancel a pending change).
# Annual / semi-annual
If you have paid upfront for six months or a year in order to take advantage of our annual/semi-annual discounts then you will still receive monthly bills as of the 1st, however:
- your "monthly subscription base in advance" line item will be 0 for the 6 or 12 months for which you have already pre-paid
- the "overage" item will be calculated as normal
Once your pre-paid 6 or 12 months are up we will automatically transition you to a pay monthly plan in order to avoid any service disuption.
